π 3. Set Up Access to Digital Workbook
You can start now! Visit the link below and either Sign In (if you have an account) or select “SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT”. Watch for the digital workbook access email, usually sent 1-2 days prior to class.
π₯ Existing Mimeo Users:
If you already have a Mimeo account, test your login access now. When you receive your redemption code, simply follow the redemption steps below to add the workbook to your existing library.
π Steps You Can Complete Now (New Users):
- Create account: Use the link above
- Verify your email: Check inbox (and junk/spam/clutter folders) for verification email from Mimeo. This is crucial – you cannot redeem your code until email is verified. No email? When logged into Mimeo, click your initials (top right) to verify your email address is correct. Click “EDIT” to change if needed, then check for a Mimeo verification email.
- Click the verification link in the email from Mimeo and login to your account. This should complete the email verification process.
π When You Receive Your Code (1-2 days before class):
Important: Your email must be verified before you can redeem the code.
- Login: https://xactware.mimeo.digital/login
- Click “Library” (left menu)
- Click “REDEEM A KEY”
- Enter your code (type manually to avoid extra spaces)
- Click “REDEEM” and refresh browser
Workbook not showing? Try logging out/in, clearing browser cache, or switching to another browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge).
π± Multi-device access: Use on PC, tablet, or smartphone
π Web browser or app: Works both ways for convenience
πΎ Important: Workbook access doesn’t expire with course access
Apps are most useful when you have your workbook and want to access it on mobile devices during class
πΉ 4. Install or Update Zoom
Important: The web client won’t work for this class. If Zoom is already installed, update it. If not installed, download and install.
π How to Update Existing Zoom:
- Open Zoom app on your computer
- Click your profile picture (top right corner)
- Select “Check for Updates”
- Install any available updates
Test your internet connection by joining a test meeting
π₯οΈπ₯οΈπ₯οΈ 5. Plan Your Screen Setup
During class, you need to view up to three things simultaneously:
- Xactimate on instructor’s computer (via Zoom)
- Your copy of Xactimate
- The Digital Workbook
π₯οΈπ₯οΈ Two Screens Minimum (Recommended)
Goal: View both the shared Zoom session AND your copy of Xactimate at the SAME time without switching screens.
Most students use a minimum of two screens. Options include: using a second computer (put Zoom on one, Xactimate and workbook on the other), or using an iPad/Android tablet for the workbook. Do you have a TV or extra monitor you can plug in?
π₯οΈ Only Have One Monitor?
Note: If you absolutely only have one screen, use Alt+Tab to quickly switch between open windows and utilize the split-screen tip (see below), if the screen size permits.
π» Windows Split-Screen Tip:
Keyboard shortcuts: Select a window, then press the Windows key + Left arrow and the selected window will move to the left half of the screen. Then, select another window and it will fill the right half of the screen automatically. Windows key + Left arrow (left half of screen), Windows key + Right arrow (right half of screen)
Or drag: Drag window to left/right edge until cursor changes, then release
βοΈ 6. Technical Requirements
πͺ Required:
- Windows operating system (Xactimate doesn’t run on Mac)
- Webcam (required for CE attendance reporting) and microphone or headset with mic
- Stable internet connection – wired connection often preferable to wireless. Tip: Video/movie streaming by others on your network can disrupt your Zoom audio and connectivity
- Zoom desktop app (web client not supported)
- Computer mouse (greatly aids with sketch)
